The end
I finally finished the book and even though we don’t have to read the second one I am going to go to borders to buy it. The last chapter of the book is titled “the Dowry”. Up until this point we have not really seen much change in Marjane she has still been growing up and still maturing but we find Marjane in this last chapter when she is confronted by her parents when they tell her that they will be sending her to Austria for a better education. There in Austria she will have many things a waiting her I am sure but she seems extremely hesitant to go because she feels that her parents are not going to go with her (Satrapi 143-153). I cant imagine how she would have felt knowing that her parents are going to be sending her away to a different country at he age of 14 where she will know no on really meaning that she will have to make new friends all the while having no one who she could truly talk to, not even her parents. All in all this book was amazing it has sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions, both good and bad, and now in the end it leaves us with us wondering what is going to happen to Marjane Satrapi now that she is going to an all new country.

Iran Iraq war
Iran Iraq war
Today there was a presentation done in our class done by Ted and his partner. They talked about the war between Iran and Iraq, and during there presentation I learnt many new things. But during this presentation I was finally able to understand what was going on the entire time on the book. I didn’t really understand what the whole Iran Iraq war was all about but according to Ted, the was had been going on for nearly 1600 years. It started when Persia and the Arabs, and is now the war between Iran and Iraq. Before the war Iran had its Islamic revolution and after this happened Saddam Hussein decided to invade Iran. The war went on for many years and this was all going on while Marjane was in Iran, which she brings up in Persepolis. According to Ted the war ended as kind of a stalemate and in 1988, the year I was born, there was a cease-fire agreement made. For two years there was still much tension between the two countries but on 1990 a peace agreement was finally made. After the war had ended there was approximately one million deaths between the two countries (Ted). This was defiantly one of the best presentations because I was really able to connect it to the book.

The sheep
I think I have finally finished my favorite chapter in the book. After reading this chapter I was extremely sad. In the chapter “the Sheep” Marjane tells us that many people have been getting killed by the regime. And in the end of the chapter we find out that Marjane’s beloved uncle Anoosh was accused and executed for being Russian spy. This chapter is one of my favorites because it is filled with such emotion and after this chapter you see that Marjane is totally different. After this chapter Marjane seems to have lost all of her innocents. This is one of the saddest things in the book especially at the last page of the chapter where she screams at God to “get out of her life!” (Satrapi 70). From here on out I have been seeing that Marjane is grown up and is a completely different person. She is no longer the innocent little child that we started off the book with but now a grown woman and only at the age of about 12 or 13 (Satrapi 62-71).

Alison and Jenny's Presentation
Pedro and Me
Yesterday there was a presentation done by Allison and Jenny, they talked about a book called Pedro and Me. I liked their presentation because it was very well done. I have read this book and their description of the book was spot on. It’s a book about the TV show “the real world” and one specific season where they decided to host Pedro, an HIV positive, gay male on the show (Li). Not only did I read the book, I have watched the entire season of the real world San Francisco. I liked this book because it brought back memories of me watching this show when I was very young. Pedro and Me is written just like Persepolis, in a comic book form. This book was very well written and it was quick to read. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a book to read.

A super sad chapter
After finishing reading the chapter “the Letter” of Persepolis I am somewhat saddened. Living in the United States, well living in San Jose I have never really understood what social classes are and after reading this chapter you really find out that segregation of social classes really still goes on in the world. In this chapter we see the first small change of Marjane as she is slightly older looking and she is becoming slightly more mature yet she still hasn’t gotten the full affect of the country that she is living in. In this chapter Marjane is helping her nanny write letters to her neighbor but after getting caught she is extremely saddened to find out that it is totally unacceptable to talk to some one romantically if they are not within your social class. In the end of this chapter I felt that Marjane was forever changed when she first went out on a demonstration. She finally saw what she had longed for, for such a long time. The only problem was that on the same day she protested there was a huge killing and when she got home her mother slapped her for leaving the house when she wasn’t supposed to (Satrapi 33-39).

Mr. Indonesia
My hero
Earlier this week there was a presentation done in class, well not necessarily a presentation it was just a video. Done by a couple of people in my class. It was incredible, “Mr. Indonesia” (Retana). It was staring Mario, Angelica and Indra. I have no idea how this really relates to Persepolis the only thing I can think of is that in Indonesia, the religion of Islam is the same religion as in Iran anyways im not doing the movie any justice here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTQ0ooPe3c8. Well check it out its pretty awesome hopefully one day this movie will make them famous and I will be able to say I knew the actors.
