the letter

A super sad chapter

After finishing reading the chapter “the Letter” of Persepolis I am somewhat saddened. Living in the United States, well living in San Jose I have never really understood what social classes are and after reading this chapter you really find out that segregation of social classes really still goes on in the world. In this chapter we see the first small change of Marjane as she is slightly older looking and she is becoming slightly more mature yet she still hasn’t gotten the full affect of the country that she is living in. In this chapter Marjane is helping her nanny write letters to her neighbor but after getting caught she is extremely saddened to find out that it is totally unacceptable to talk to some one romantically if they are not within your social class. In the end of this chapter I felt that Marjane was forever changed when she first went out on a demonstration. She finally saw what she had longed for, for such a long time. The only problem was that on the same day she protested there was a huge killing and when she got home her mother slapped her for leaving the house when she wasn’t supposed to (Satrapi 33-39).
